Pittsburgh's Top 10 Christmas Attractions
Winter in the Northeast can be quite bitter, literally. The holidays give us a nice distraction from what is inevitably coming in the heart of winter. Thankfully, Pittsburgh has some awesome attractions for the Christmas season!
It was hard for us to narrow our list down to 10 attractions, but that is exactly what we have done for this article. Below is a list of our Top 10 favorite Christmas attractions in or around the Pittsburgh area.
If you love Christmas displays but don't love the cold weather, Lumzae might be just for you. Located in the Strip District, this amazing display of Christmas lights is displayed indoors.
The experience features over 1,000,000 lights, massive Christmas trees, and much more.
Phipps Conservatory's Winter Flower Show
Each year, Phipps transforms itself into an amazing display of Christmas and winter. Every year also features a brand new, original theme.
While the flower display inside is immaculate, the outside in recent years has also been. The outdoor garden gets converted into an amazing light display that can only be seen after dark.
A Nationality Room Christmas
The University of Pittsburgh's Cathedral of Learning features dozens of Nationality Rooms from cultures across the globe. During the Christmas season, these rooms transform into decorations native to the respective nationality room they are located in.
This is a long standing Christmas tradition that you will not want to miss!
Overly's Country Christmas
Overly's Christmas display is a fantastic combination of drive-by and walk around. The display has lit up Westmoreland County during the Christmas season since 1956.
The walk-around portion features a Christmas village that is filled with traditional displays and other treats. You can even take a horse-drawn wagon/sleigh ride or shop for gifts.
Shadrack's Christmas Wonderland
Shadrack's Christmas Wonderland is quite similar to Overly's, however it first opened in 2015. Located at the Butler County Fairgrounds, the experience is split into two sections.
The first section is a drive through portion with lights that has music that syncs to the radio in your car. The music features the typical holiday classics, religious favorites, and even Trans-Siberian Orchestra.
The second half of the display is an indoor Christmas village where pictures can be taken with Santa.
Kennywood's Holiday Lights
Mostly known for their summer rides and attractions, Kennywood also features Fright Night that we have covered in other articles. But did you know Kennywood also has a Christmas display?
The park transforms into a winter wonderland decorated with thousands upon thousands of dazzling lights. In addition to the lights, there are impressive gingerbread house exhibits, and live performances throughout the park.
Trans Siberian Orchestra Live
Trans Siberian Orchestra is hard to put into words. The live performance features Christmas medley's and indescribable light show. The act only comes to Pittsburgh once per year and nearly sells out every time.
The band has sold over 10 million concert tickets and 10 million albums. Take our word for it, it is an act you surely do not want to miss!

Whether you are in the mood for a ballet, theatrical performance or music, the various performances in the Cultural District have you covered.

The Pittsburgh ballet performs the Nutcracker year after year. In addition to that, the ballet also puts on various other holiday themed shows.
Pittsburgh Ice Rink at PPG Place
If you have ever been downtown during the Christmas season, you are probably aware that there is an ice rink at PPG Place. The well-put-together ice rink is illuminated by the massive glowing tree in the center of it.
Don't worry, there is no need to be an advanced skater. People of all skill levels are encouraged to lace up their skates and take to the ice!
Constructed 20 years ago, the Pittsburgh Creche is the only authorized creche outside of the Vatican! While the display is not as much an activity as it is a view, it is definitely a sight to behold.
The display features a life-size nativity scene. The scene contains 20 statues. It is located at the USX Tower Plaza on Grant Street and there is no cost for visiting.
